Many of Dr. Thiry’s patients who have tried other methods of treatment without success have experienced significant relief to total elimination of their headaches under the care of Dr. Thiry. Headaches are usually in the form of one of two types: migraine headaches or muscle tension headaches. Migraine headaches can be the result of a number of sources which include vascular, hormonal, allergic, muscle, or neurological. The cause of the migraine headache will determine the right course of treatment or the need for medication. Some people have been misdiagnosed with migraine headaches do to the severity of the headache. Many people who suffer from migraine headaches will respond well to chiropractic treatment. Muscle tension headaches are the most common type of headache and also the most easily treated. Muscle tension headaches are the result of muscles in the upper back, shoulders and neck being tight and pulling on their attachment point on the back of the head. When this occurs the area on the base of the skull will become inflamed and tender resulting in an ache in the back of the head. Many times as the irritation gets worse the pain will move up the back of the head over the top to the front of the head behind the eyes. This is the classic pattern for muscle tension headaches. Chiropractic treatment along with physiotherapy modalities and home stretching are the most effective treatment for muscle tension headaches. This type of treatment can also be very effective at reducing or eliminating migraine headaches.
